XLENDI BAY - Jewel of Gozo
Advent our through Towering Cliffs and sandy beach Wind down with a stroll down the promenade
Xlendi Bay is situated 3kmd from Victoria, on the southern coast of Gozo. This small village is sheltered beneath towering cliffs and a small sandy beach. Old one-storey buildings still line the promenade at the edge of the beach and a silver of sand can still be found between the promenade and the water, A tower situated on the west end of the bay was used to alert the locals of any enemy attacks. The statue of St. Andrew, patron saint of fisherman at the seafront hints at Xlendi`s fishing connection. The bay now is a routine stop for every visitor to Gozo and the short but lovely sea front promenade has its share of restaurants as well as souvenir shops. A steep stairway allows the more adventourous to climb to the stop of the Cliffside, and admire the view. For the less mobile visitors, two tiers of paved passages are provided, where they can sunbathe or saunter, up to the extremity of the bay. In the winter time, the bay assumes a quitter aspect, but then it is by no means less gratifying to the visitor who admires its natural surroundings.
